The secret to successful gift-giving isn’t money, it’s thought ! So, before you even think about opening your wallet, spend a little time thinking about each person on your written list. Think about their likes, noted preferences, needs, little habits, things they prefer to use or collects, colors and shapes of items even what they wear. Think about their sense of humor, or things they have complained about. Things they have commented about ‘absolutely loving’, all are hints to becoming a successful gift.
Sharing is caring, and if you take time to think about the Blessings you’ve received throughout the year, the urge will come for you to share. Donate to a favorite charity or organization. Pick up a pretty card and send good thoughts and your donation. All donations no matter what size are appreciated. Look for corporate sponsors who may have a holiday event to raise money for a great benefit, buy a ticket and enjoy giving even more.
Teach your children to give back. Have them to put on their list of gift-giving someone they have in mind to make an anonymous gift to. This is something that they will remember for years to come. As humans, anytime, any age has to make sacrifices, it is remembered, instill in them the positive message that giving with good thoughts is NOT a sacrifice, but actually a Blessing because they have something to share. Only when parents take time to teach, do their children learn such lessons. There is no age limit on learning how to share.
There are usually Angel Trees in department stores where you or your family can give gifts, and many many organizations that start sometimes a months in advance collecting items and donations to share with others. Participate in a program that stirs the true Christmas spirit in you.
Children and teens and adults who don’t have money to spare may have time to give someone a break from cooking, laundry, shopping, cleaning, babysitting, fixing something broken, raking leaves, pulling weeds, running errands, running the vacuum.
All of these can be made into a hand made “Gift Certificate” and stuffed into an envelope and decorated in a holiday form and delivered either in person or by mail. Time is a special gift that is highly valued by all. Sharing your time with someone who have needs greater than you, is a treasured gift long remembered.
