I know you all hate insects, especially when they invade your home or office. Insects belong outside, right? Well sometimes they find a way into our personal spaces and wreak havoc. One of the most aggrevating pests of all is the FLEA. These blood sucking parasites can lay over 500 eggs within an eight month period on your cat or dog. These eggs are attached to your pet's hair and can easily fall off onto their bedding, your furniture and into your rugs and carpets. The flea egg hatches into the larve stage anywhere from 1 to 12 days depending on the environment. In 7-14 days another round of adult fleas are actively pursuing new hosts on which to lay more eggs. This crazy cycle can be interupted by following these important steps:

1. Vacum anywhere your pet has been traveling or laying inside of your home. Remove the vacum bag/canister and put the contents into a sealed bag. Throw into your outdoor recepticle for collection.
2. Take your pet to the Veternarian and have them treated for fleas. (Expect to experience more fleas bites while your pet is away. When their feline or canine host is away, fleas will feed on human blood.)
3. Call your Exterminator! This is very important. You will not be able to rid your home of fleas by yourself. There is not a legal chemical available "over the counter" for the Do It Youselfer that will eliminate fleas.

When we come out to your home or office, we will ask you to do these steps before spraying your home with an Insect Growth Regulator. This chemical will stop the reproduction cycle of the flea, thus end your flea infestation. It is recommended that you keep your pets and young children off the areas treated until the chemical is completey dry. (About 2 hours)

Expect your exterminator to "Retreat" your home or business at least once, sometimes twice, before complete eradication occurs.

If you have any other questions about Fleas, visit the Unniversity of Florida's Entomology Department. They have THE BEST information and it is the ONLY website we recommend. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu Do a search for Fleas and this site will tell you everything you need to know...PLUS!

Good Luck!
