My mom almost passed out in church a few months ago and scared the @#$% out of me! Turns out she had forgotten she had taken her high blood sugar meds and TOOK THEM TWICE. Her blood sugar was so low we had to administer orange juice and a protien bar someone had to bring her around enough to walk.
Since then, I have her meds packaged in the Meds-On-Time blister packs. In this way, we can both tell what she took, or not, and when. It has already helped tremendously as on several occasions she went back to take what she forgot she had already taken. When we visited her doctor for some health issues, we just took the pack along and it showed everything she took and in what amounts, saving us the hassel of picking up all those bottles and wondering if we got them all, (she wanders around with bottles in her hand and leaves them in the laundry room, etc.). I love that this service is FREE and that I can have them delivered to my house so I don't forget to pick anything up anymore.
Thanks to Paul, the pharmacist at Tri-County Pharmacy, I can discuss any bad reactions to new meds she is given and we can contact her doctor immediately to make changes. This has brought me SO much peace of mind. And, if her doctors have any questions about what she was given, they can call him 24/7!
Please, if you are the caregiver of someone who has problems remembering what they have or haven't taken, call Paul at (863) 937-0480 and consult with him about it. Oh, and they can also throw in the toothpaste, mouthwash or vitamins you forgot to pick up on the way home and their prices are comparable or lower than my local drug store. I had the sad occasion of speaking with a good friend who lost another friend to an overdose recently. Tears came to his eyes as we discussed this packaging and he said, "That could have saved his life."
Don't wait until you're in the emergency room to do something about this issue. Pick up the phone and do something TODAY!
