It's Apple Season!

There's nothing like a crisp, tart, delicious apple! Try some organic ones this season. I think you'll really taste the difference and you don't even have to peel them!

Did you know some of the greatest benefits of fruit lie just beneath the skin?

If you purchase conventional apples, please wash them thoroughly and peel them before consumption, especially for your children.

But did you know all of the health benefits associated with the humble apple?

Check out this short expose on America's favorite fruit.

Enjoy a bowl of steamy goodness courtesy of the delicious fall crop of apples and pears!

Publix has conventional apples on sale for $.99 a pound right now making this a budget friendly treat!

Try out this recipe. It was a hit in my home. I served the leftovers for breakfast for a nice change of pace.

Fall Fruit Crisp

Serves: 8
Preparation Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:
8 apples or pears, peeled and sliced (tart ones are the best.)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2/3 cup applesauce (No Added Sugar)
1/2 cup date sugar or other sweetner of choice. (Works fine with Splenda)
1/2 cup oat flour (grind oatmeal in your blender)
2 cups rolled oats
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/3 cup raisins
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup Goji berries, soaked (optional) or Craisins

Instructions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sprinkle apples with lemon juice & toss. Mix rest of ingredients together then combine with apples and mix thoroughly. Pour into an 8 X 11 inch (20 x 28 cm)baking dish and bake for 45 minutes.

Note: If using Goji berries be sure to soak them for an hour ahead of time in just enough water to cover. Drain before adding the berries to the mixture. The Goji berries not only add color to this crisp but, more importantly, they add a nutritional antioxidant boost

Enjoy!
