Food for Thought: Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, Winter Haven

Ok...I'm just gonna say it...."My husband and I live for Kids Eat Free specials at restaurants!"

Our daughters are getting older, and for the most part we don't always get away with eating off the kids meals. But....we have learned how to use it to our fullest advantage. We order off the kids menu and when needed our girls either share a side salad and/or share off of our plates. Then, it's just enough for them and it's still cheaper for us in the long run. The only caveat to this golden rule is when it comes to Steak and Lobster...then my daughters have to order off the adult menu because the kids versions are not enough for our Expensive Carnivores. Yes my daughters love Lobster dinners, yes my husband cries anytime we mention Outback, and yes we pity the fools who may date our daughters when they are older.

We recently heard that Perkins Restaurant & Bakery offered Kids Eat Free after 3pm everyday. We've been to Perkins in the past and weren't very thrilled with the quality of the food. Even if the kids ate for free, we would always cross it off our list. An amazing friend of mine told me to try it again, and that things have changed there. After a long night at soccer practice, 2 tired parents and 2 extremely hungry girls decided to give it a try again. Heck, the kids ate for free so how much would we have invested if it was still not that great.....

It was like a miracle descended upon us all. As soon as we sat down, our amazing server Timothy greeted us and immediately took care of us. Sensing we were dirty, sweaty, tired, and beaten down, Timothy made sure the girls were taken care of. I wanted to take him home with me....he just sprang into action and calmed the girls down. He suggested a Blue Fizzy drink for the girls and brought them hot-out-of-the-oven rolls. He totally spared us from the girls having a total melt down from thirst and hunger.

My daughters ordered off the Kids Perks Menu - the French Toast Tower and Chicken Tenders. My daughter had broccoli with her Chicken Tenders. Timothy even brought her lemon butter for her broccoli which she LOVED!!!! My husband, who is a Patty Melt fanatic, tested their Patty Melt making abilities. To hear him say just how impressed he was with his dinner, made everything seem to fall into place. I decided to pay homage to my Texas roots and ordered the Tangler Burger. It reminded me of my favorite burger I would get in Dallas; it comes with cheese, onion straws and all the fixins. I ordered my medium rare because I am always concerned that the burgers come out dry and over cooked - ick... I was thrilled to get a very juicy burger with just a little hint of pink in the middle on my plate. I was in love at first bite.

The Kids Perks meals include their drink and a cookie for dessert! That is an amazing deal for families looking for a valuable Kids Eat Free* special. Just as predicted, my daughters finished their plates and were still hungry. We ordered them a cup of chicken noodle soup, which was only
$0.99 as part of their side meal specials. It still was a win-win situation for us.

Timothy checked on us continually, bringing us extra napkins, making sure the girls were taken care of, and gave us a amazing dining experience. The food was very good, it came out hot and tasty, and we will totally go to Perkins again. The staff at Perkins were all very friendly and welcoming, which is always wonderful to see.

Be sure to visit Perkins Restaurant & Bakery soon and if you get Timothy as your server, be sure to let him know we gave him 10's for his service said he was the best!! Let me know if you have been to Perkins Restaurant & Bakery and what you thought.

CarrieAnn, have to agree with you here...there is no place like Perkins. It's the ONLY place I go to eat pancakes. Their chefs' salad is really good, too, and the the only thing missing is the house dressing they used to have years ago, a sweet and sour dressing with celery seeds that was to die for! And where else can you get Thanksgiving (turkey) dinner and fixins just about any time of the year? Best of all? the Sticky Buns, Cranberry Nut muffins, and cherry pie. And I always get good service there. May have something to do with the fact that I'm usually there every Saturday and Sunday a.m. for my and swiss cheese omelet and pancakes and sweet tea.

LOL...The Bean and Grape event is going to be on Tuesday Oct. 5th...so you are just in time. I will be there and hope to see you there as well.

I will be rooting you on "Queen of the Tigers" and truly admire what you are doing. So proud of you and definitely want to to see the picture of you striking a FIERCE pose for sure.

I definitely want to hear more about being a Healthy Gardenist...my family has been working to grow sustainable fruits and vegetables in our backyard. We have had to start all over, the summer heat decimated our garden while we were out of town this summer. But our love for growing our own food will carry us back into starting a new and improved garden soon. I have seen your website and the tiles you created are amazing...you are a gifted artist for sure. I will have to check on your future workshops...my daughters love art and gardening so I know they would be enthralled.

Thank you for your kind words on my writing and reviews. I love to write and when I can speak from the heart the words always come out better. I write as if I am speaking to friends, which is what I hope comes across. I agree they should give me a deal, I may have to work on that in the future :-)

Thanks Carrie..Looks like I just missed the one at Grape and Beanery in Winter Haven..Heck..
I'm completing the challenge Saturday.Probably won my age group( ; Can't you just see me in front of the photographers striking poses that would shame the athletes..maybe even George Foreman ?
Imagine your Granny looking like the Queen of the Tigers...If anyone laughs I'll just have to take them down in one swift move...Look for our utubes of the Tigers jumping around in our blue tees..A sight for sore eyes. We have lost over 1,000 pounds and some of the girls have transformed their bodies so well..I don't know their names. I do not work for them I'm an artist and now a healthy Gardenist and do the workshops here on Havendale Blvd...Let's chat. You are one great writer and the restaurants should cut you a deal.

Hi Mz Pati,

Thank you so very much for the amazing comment. No, I do not own a franchise. My family is a group of foodies who enjoys trying new places, cuisines, and finding the best deals. While we all love to cook and spend time together in the kitchen, we TOTALLY enjoy eating out...probably more then we should at times ;-)

I own Set to a Tea, it's a business that brings Tea Tastings to your home so that you can enjoy Tea Time with your friends and family. I will definitely become a fan of the Gardenist, I hope you become a fan of my blogs and company as well.

Be sure to come out to our the next Woman to woman Meet and Mingle....I will be there proudly supporting Woman to Woman and of course, Set to a Tea!

Have a TEA-rrific Day.....
