Food for Thought: Hurricane Grill and Wings, Winter Haven

One of my ultimate favorite places in Winter Haven to go for lunch or dinner is Hurricane Grill and Wings on Cypress Gardens Blvd. I have been a fan since they opened almost 4 years ago, and it's our go-to place when entertaining out of town guests, birthday dinners, and to order wing platters for Super Bowl parties.

Set in the High Pointe Plaza, you can always find a bunch of cars parked out front and the neon lights for Bud and Miller calling your name. I love a place where everybody knows your name, and being frequent guests at Hurricane...well...they know us. My favorite spot to sit is along the front side of the restaurant so that we can watch the flurry of vehicles zipping down Cypress Gardens. I always wonder where they are going and why they aren't enjoying the laid back atmosphere with Miller or Bud...or the rest of us for that matter.

Walking into Hurricane is like taking a trip to Key West to see a sporting event, it's a tropical oasis that tempts you with their tasty wings and flat screen tv's with a plethora of football games, baseball games, or NASCAR races. If there is a sporting event on, they have it on one of the tv screens. Most days you can seat yourself at one of the many booths, high top tables, or around the large open bar. During busy times, a hostess will greet you and seat you.

My favorite server, who I sit with religiously is Anthony P. He knows what I want, how I want it, and makes sure it comes out exactly the way I want it. I am not saying I am a Dining Diva or anything; however, 99.9% of the time I have to a tweak a menu item wherever I go to make it "Exactly How I Like It". So Anthony always makes sure my 10-Wing Platter has my choice of wing sauce (Cheesy Garlic Parmesan) and that I get a double order of fries with cheese and bacon. He also makes sure that my wings are extra wet and extra crispy, just the way I like it. Before my cup is empty, I have another Sweet Tea ready and waiting for me. He also knows both of my daughter's choices, and my husband's order. I swear I hear the theme to "Cheers" when I walk into the restaurant.

Truth be told, everyone at Hurricane Grill and Wings goes the distant to make your visit fun, perfect, and tasty. When the servers begin to see you over and over again, they are all great about making you feel welcome and ask how you have been doing.

Hurricane Grill and Wings offers over 32 Wing Sauces and they are all categorized by Hurricane warnings. The Category 1 sauces are Mild & Sweet, Category 2 is Warming Trend, Category 3 is Ready for the Rush, Category 4 is Proceed with Caution, and Category 5 is Seek Shelter. I can honestly tell you that a friend of mine tried the hottest sauce they offer, Ridiculously Hot Hurricane Sauce and it was all that and a possible trip to the hospital. My friend's lips turned blue, and I honestly thought we were going to have to rush him to the hospital...they were HOT!!!

Their menu offers a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, and platters. They also offer special menu with additional items not on the everyday menu. Their Churrasco Steak menu items are delish! Also be sure to check out their specials and events. They have Hosted Live Trivia Tuesday nights from 7:30-ish to 9:30-ish with up to $100 in prizes. 1st place is $50 gift certificate, 2nd place is $30 gift certificate and 3rd place
is $20 gift certificate
.

Monday nights kids eat free and we have a balloon artist every Saturday evening for the kiddies! Also on Monday, All-You-Can-Eat BONELESS WINGS for $14.99 from 6-9pm, one non-alcoholic drink and two sides included! No take outs or take homes!

Be sure to visit Hurricane Grill and Wings soon and if you get Anthony as your server, be sure to let him know Carrie-Ann said he was the best!! Let me know if you have been to Hurricane Grill and Wings and what you thought.

Thanks Ruth,

Definitely check it out and let us know your thoughts and opinions. I like my wings extra crispy with extra sauce. Not the most healthiest of meals, but soooo tasty.
