Passions for 2011

My passions have changed over the years.

First : just the thought of leaving,"Mitchells Curb Market", on third Street was a passionant thought I had every night.

Second :the thought of leaving Elmira New York after 4 years of marriage, especially the last snow fall when Duke and I got on the train to get back to Florida.

I went to the Hospitality room and heard a lot of grumbling about not enough people signed up to bring sandwiches, something was missing(I think it was a can opener) It was found later but the grumbling continued..Hmmmmm thought this was a ministry and volunteers were abundant.

I found some more frozen biscuits, buttered them sprinkled sugar and cinnamon and toss three trays in the broiler..I thought this was fun and I really would rather have a paint brush in my hand instead of a…

My Montalvo’s Hair Cut Helps Me Lose Weight

Yup!  That’s how I figure it.

Edgar never needed to ask before he worked his magic.  “Do you have a picture I can look at?” That’s because he knows what to do and he does it well.  All he needed to know was the length I desired.  I chose short … he threw in sassy.

And … OMG!  I love it. I look great. I went from avoiding mirrors altogether to seeking out every…

I Found Grace at Church

I saw a tiny older lady sitting alone in the church hospitality room ...I raced (not walked) over to her side and pushed the flyer in her face. The one about the womans Ministry I call "MOM'S" Mothers of Mothers.

She tightened her lips and told me how busy she is and doesn't want to get involved. Of course I ignored all the signs of frustration and smiled at her sweetly or as sweetly as I could muster up at this sight.

I remembered the old…

Vick's Picks - LED news

Yesterday I took a webinar (online class) sponsored by LED’s Magazine. Although most of the content was geared towards LED luminaire and lamp manufacturers, as a lighting designer, I got some information that I thought would be interesting to other designers and consumers. So far, I have yet to sell LED fixtures to clients. The reason is, up until now, LED manufacturers of fixtures and lamps were able to make…

The Church is Just another Building

When I visited this church Abiding Saviour Lutheranon Havendale and kinda got involved I could see with fresh eyes.Well, that's what I told the Pastor Alan Ford Thursday when I wanted to change/redesign the look of the Foyer. The kids toys, old cork board with outdated pin-ups and closed curtains seemed to be drawing me in.

When you are a visitor to someones…

First Gathering..FREE FOOD..but somebody had to cook..Sounds like a Moms Job

Just finished the forms for the new event at the  Abiding Saviour Lutheran Church on Havendale Blvd. and noticed the acronym for Mothers of Mothers is "MOMS".

We are here creating a place where other moms can come for an hour sharing and caring. Both benefit from just the action of sitting down and listening to each other.I wish when my mom was in my life we could have done this. She was raising 5 kids mostly by…

This.. is... it....

On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me 12 orphans drumming on pots and pans. I was speechless. I was also very, very irritated. Banging, crying, the smell of poop lingering in the air. I don't know anymore. There is nothing positive I can say about children and the fact that they were being beyond loud and distracting made me have more negative feelings towards children. That's it, I'm converting. At least next year there will only be 8 days of Hanukkah rather than 12 days of…

When It's Right to Lend Money

It seems like now more than ever folks are facing tough financial situations. There may be a time when a friend or loved one will ask you to borrow money. It's not always a good situation to be in and can really put you on the spot. There are times when lending a loved one money hurts more than it helps. When someone close to you asks to borrow money, make sure that you consider why they are asking. Are they truly in a bind? Is this a temporary situation and in need of a bridge to get back on…

Vick's Picks - Romantic Lighting..

Whenever the holidays roll around I am reminded of one light source that seems to shine more brightly and in more places than at any other time of the year. .. candlelight. The original source of light, a flame, still draws and unites people together. Whether you are congregating, commiserating or dining, candlelight, and the warm glow that it produces, is unique and difficult to duplicate. Having said that, here…

Balance Pati's Advisory for Tuesdays Only

Just finished a blog called "DO OVER"...If you didn't read it..It's about apologies,Oops and other mis-slips of the tongue.

Isn't there a time that you remember of speaking and being totally misrepresented. When you recall the situation and the meanings were not received as you had hoped.

Even the courts want apologies for the dastardly deeds you did. They spend hours investigating the fiction and facts surrounding your case( not mine) They spend millions on attorneys and…

"Do Over"

I Just found out at a Womens Ministry Bible Study that we can get a "Do Over". Wasn't sure what those gals were talking about but I was writing notes as fast as I could and was able to use that Quote this morning.

When we live an imperfect life and would like to do differently.. we can change. Starting with our thoughts and then our words. Wow, what if we hurt someones feelings and can get a few moments to correct…
