Managing the Mayhem: Part Two-Squeezing it in.

I'm sitting here this morning holding my favorite mug (we all have our favorites, you know, the perfect size, design and color that nests perfectly in your palm) full of rich, aromatic, steaming STRONG (decaf) coffee. Yes, I made it myself today. I wonder if the Starbuck's early crew misses me :) Did you know they don't brew decaf until after 5am? That was free.

We're between Boot Camp sessions and I'm able to stay home and just catch… Continue

Chicken in the House

I live in subdivision row...I live on the very tippy-top of Lakeland. From my front yard I can see the power plant, the tall ride thingy from Cypress Gardens and a bunch of other stuff. I live within a short walk of at least 8 of my friends. I said all of that to describe that I do not live on a farm....

Yesterday I came home from working and threw open all the doors to the rear of the house because the weather was warm and the dogs could go freely in an out. I piddled and plundered… Continue

Managing the Mayhem

Mother’s are by definition, selfless.

Everyone needs us. The husband, the children, the school, the car pool. It never ends.

I say it’s time to become a little more selfish (in the most positive way) so that we will actually have more to give to those who are so dependent on us.

We all need to learn a little self-care. I wish moms would give their personal physical, mental and spiritual health a little more thought.… Continue

How to Get a Man to Listen

While doing preparation for my radio show, I read all kinds of interesting articles from all kinds of sources. One of them was an article in “Women’s Health” on how a woman can get her man to actually listen when she talks.

Let me, as a man, respond to this advice and give you my perspective if it’s good advice... or hooey!

1. Avoid Eye Contact: Looking a man directly in the eye may make him feel threatened.

Non-sense. If anyone avoids eye contact with me while we’re… Continue

Simple but Effective Feedback

When you are providing feedback to employees or children or husbands . . . you need to be effective. Most feedback that is given is ineffective primarily because it is too generic and judgmental. For example, "You are arrogant" or "you are bossy" begs the obvious question, "how?" or "in what way?" A simply formula keeps the feedback specific, focused, and therefore better heard.

C stands for context because the recipient needs to know to what you are referring. A is for action, in… Continue

What Eggs-actly is the difference?

Are you buying the eggs with the little red stamp on them? Do you know why?

Let's talk about the regular egg first. Did you know that the creators of these eggs at as young as 4 months, are forced to share a 2 square foot cage with 2-3 other young chicks? Because of these crowded conditions, just like humans packed together, disease is prevalent. Thus they need to be given antibiotics in their feed. They also are given hormones so… Continue

Shake it Up!

I assume our gyms are similar and that you’re aware of the following scenario:

There are certain focused and persistent individuals that come to the gym at the same time, every day, and use the same piece of cardio equipment all the time, for the same amount of time.

Many of these folks spend their allotted time either reading the morning paper, their current novel, or talking on the phone while strolling leisurely on the treadmill or recumbent bike.

At times… Continue

FHA Mortgages

There is no better time to buy a home or refinance your existing mortgage then NOW!

Home prices are the lowest in years due to so many foreclosures and short sales. Interest rates are at a 40 year low, and to 1st Time Homebuyers, there’s an additional tax incentive up to $8,000., if you buy and close by November 30, 2009.

Probably the most popular loan program in this environment and the easiest to qualify for, is an FHA… Continue
