Headaches from Wine?

“It’s so good! Once it hits your lips, it’s so good!” .. until ten minutes later you get a massive headache and the parties over.Originally, scientists attributed the causes of these headaches to sulfites. Sulfites, or sulfur dioxide is a preservative as well as a naturally occurring byproduct of yeasts, produced during the…See More

Wine Rules?

I work from the principle "That there are NO RULES, just guidelines." However, the wine industry has to have perimeters to work from.  For example; Most California Cabernets and many Merlots, Zinfandels and Syrahs are actually blends.  By law the bottle must contain 75 percent of the grape varietal shown on the label.  For instance, many winemakers blend other varieties in their Cabernet to soften it or to add color or structure. RicWatch for more "No Rules" in the future.See More

Today’s Rosé are the true European styles with and American twist, crisp, dry and refreshing. What make a rosé a rosé?Rosé is processed just like any other grape only the wine maker decides when to extract the skins during…See More

The proper temperature of wine serving and storage

The proper temperature of wine serving and storage. Summer has finally arrived here in Central Florida and I’m often asked; “At what temperature should I store my wines?” and “What’s the proper serving temperature for my wines?” The answer to the first is easy because that year round temperature should remain the same.   What is called cellar temperature is ideal for both red and white wines in storage at the 55° to 65° Fahrenheit mark. This can vary a few degrees but for the most part the…See More

Where to start? Many times I am asked “What does it take to start a winery?”  Well, in California, you need to have plenty of money or a rich backer.   Then, a vision and plenty of stamina to stay the course, because the first couple of years (6), your ROI (Return on Investment) will be nothing. But once you commit yourself to it you must find the land that meets four primary conditions. To successfully grow grape vines to produce wine, the viticulturist (grape grower) is looking for four…See More

I purchased it in 2008 from Tim Varan. This is a passion that I have had since my first job as an assistant buyer in a gourmet food and wine store. My responsibilities beside buying wines was to keep my mentor sober. This was back in the day when the two martini lunch was an acceptable business practice. Since then I have enjoyed traveling and trying new wines and learning about the people who are involved in the industry.
My Home Life - My Relationship Status/Children:
I'm married to my wonderful wife Sherry. We have a beautiful daughter, Lindsay and a son-in-law, Greg. They have just blessed us with our first grandson, Alexander
My Fun Life - My Interests & Hobbies:

My Favorites - Celebs, Movies, Books, Websites, Music, Television, Travel & More:

We have family all over the country and enjoy our visits with them. Our western trips we always work a little work into our itinerary. I have a difficult time calling it work when we are out tasting some fantastic wines in the vineyards.
What Defines Me - The Things I'm Passionate About:
I'm passionate about my family. I'm also passionate about wine. Not only are there medical benefits to wine, but, it sure brings alot of old and new friends together. There are so many different types of grapes that make so many different wines. I really enjoy sharing the knowledge I have acquired.
Anything & Everthing Else:
My shop is strictly wine with a few accessories. I'm not a liquor store. I am a person that likes to help all levels of wine folks. Whether it be the beginning wine student or the connoisseur.
I love it when I hear, " That wine that you showed me last night was fantastic, thanks. What else do you have?"
